About the Forum
Since 1995, the United States–Spain Council and the Fundación Consejo España–Estados Unidos have convened an annual U.S.–Spain Forum, alternating between the United States and Spain, to strengthen one of the world's most enduring transatlantic partnerships. The Forum brings together senior government officials, business leaders, policymakers, academics, and thought leaders from both countries to engage in substantive dialogue on the most pressing issues shaping the bilateral relationship and the global agenda.

Discussions span a broad range of strategic topics—including trade and investment, defense and security, economic competitiveness, technology and innovation, artificial intelligence, energy, immigration, and Spain's role within the European Union. Recognized as the premier bilateral dialogue between the United States and Spain, the Forum features speakers from the highest levels of government alongside executives from leading global corporations, financial institutions, universities, and research organizations, fostering collaboration and advancing solutions to shared challenges and opportunities.

San Juan, Puerto Rico
Old Town San Juan, named for Saint John the Baptist, was established in 1521 on a small island overlooking one of the Caribbean’s most strategic natural harbors. Its location made it a vital military and commercial hub of the Spanish Empire, shaping its role in regional trade and defense for centuries. Today, Old San Juan reflects this deep colonial history and stands as one of the oldest continuously inhabited European-founded cities in the Americas. It is also the oldest capital city under the United States flag, celebrated for its preserved architecture, colorful streets, and rich cultural heritage.

As Honorary Chairman of the U.S.-Spain Council, it is my privilege to welcome you to the 2026 U.S.-Spain Council Forum in Puerto Rico. The U.S.-Spain Council Forum serves as an important platform for strengthening the enduring partnership between the United States and Spain. By bringing together leaders from government, business, academia, and civil society, the Forum fosters meaningful dialogue on the issues shaping our shared future and provides an opportunity to deepen the relationships that support transatlantic cooperation. This year’s discussions will explore some of the most consequential challenges and opportunities facing our nations, including energy security and affordability, the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and quantum computing, the evolving role of digital assets, and the future of pharmaceutical innovation and access. These conversations reflect the importance of collaboration as we navigate technological change, economic competitiveness, and global uncertainty.

Puerto Rico offers a fitting setting for these exchanges. With its rich cultural heritage and unique ties to both the United States and the broader Spanish-speaking world, the island serves as a bridge between histories, peoples, and ideas. It is also an ideal place to celebrate the cultural connections that continue to strengthen the relationship between our countries through music, film, and the arts.
